Welcome to the Official Home Page of the West Jersey Astronomical Society (additionally known as the Willingboro Astronomical Society). Our club is in its 57th year of serving both the public and the amateur astronomers of the Delaware Valley. We have a long history of public education, star parties, interesting meetings, in-depth training and experienced leadership. We are a 501(c)(3) tax-exempt organization. Click here for membership information. Members in good standing have access to the gated Barnegat Road Observing Site in the dark New Jersey Pines.

Photo Spotlight Image posted 2.19.2024
Club member Bill Grimditch captured this image of Bode's Galaxy, or Messier 81, a beautiful "grand design" spiral galaxy in the constellation Ursa Major, the Great Bear. It was captured on February 7 & 9, 2024, from non-dark Willlingboro, NJ, using a ZWO ASI294MC camera and a Celestron Edge 9.25" Schmidt-Cassegrain telescope tracking on a Celestron CGX German equatorial mount, auto-guiding with PHD2 and an ASI174MM camera. Total exposure time was about 58 minutes (40.3 min on Feb 7 and 17.3 on Feb 9 before clouds interfered). It was stacked and processed with PixInsight, then slight final adjustments were made in Photoshop.
