Photo Spotlight   Image posted 9.28.2024

Club member Joe Stieber captured this image of the Crescent Moon and Venus after sunset on September 5, 2024, from Mt Laurel, NJ, just three-quarters of a mile from the WAS meeting venue in Moorestown, NJ. It was taken at 8:06 pm EDT with a Canon EOS RP DSLM camera and a Canon 100 mm f/2.8L telephoto/macro lens on a fixed tripod. It's from a single raw frame exposed 0.4 seconds at f/5.6, ISO 1600. The field is 16° wide x 9° high. At the time, the Moon was 2.9 days old and 7.3% illuminated. The pair was about 6.6° apart, with the Moon at 4.0° altitude and Venus at 3.6° altitude. The pair will again be close together on October 5, 2024; at 7:00 pm, Venus about 4° above-right the 3.2 day old, 8.7% illuminated Moon. Mouseover for labels.
