Welcome to the Official Home Page of the West Jersey Astronomical Society (formerly known as the Willingboro Astronomical Society). Our club is in its 51st year of serving both the public and the amateur astronomers of the Delaware Valley. We have a long history of public education, star parties, interesting meetings, in-depth training and experienced leadership. We are a 501(c)(3) tax-exempt organization. Mar 31 | Full Moon at 8:37 am EST in Virgo. It will be a "Blue Moon" (the second full moon in March). |
Apr 6 | Formal Meeting, 7:30 pm at the Virtua Health and Wellness Center in Moorestown, NJ. As always, guests are welcome and no astronomical experience is necessary. This image of the 1.5-day-old, 2.5% illuminated Crescent Moon with the planets Venus and Mercury was captured by club member Howard Schneck on March 18, 2018, at 7:45 pm EDT from Atsion in Wharton State Forest, NJ, with a Panasonic Lumix FZ200 digital camera, handheld, at 14 mm focal length. It was exposed 1/5 second at f/2.8, ISO 500. Mouseover for labels.
Club member Joe Stieber also captured the Crescent Moon, Venus and Mercury on March 18, 2018, at 8:01 pm EDT from Swede Run in Moorestown, NJ, with a Canon 6D digital SLR camera on a fixed tripod and a Canon 200 mm f/2.8L lens (not cropped). It was exposed 1/10 second at f/2.8, ISO 1600, daylight white balance. Mouseover for labels.
